How do I know if I have termites?

The most common signs that your home or property is infested with termites are as follows:

• Swarming termites - You will see swarms of winged termites looking to find a mate and form a new colony. Swarms typically happen in the spring and can happen inside or outside your home. Do not confuse swarming termites with flying ants. Visit our Termite page to tell the difference between a flying ant and a winged termite.
• Termite wings - Finding discarded wings is a great indicator that there is a termite colony nearby.
• Mud tubes - About the size of a pencil, if you see mud tubes around your property there is a good chance they lead to a termite colony. 
• Wood damage - Termites work by chewing from the inside out, so usually by the time you find wood damage, it's too late. If wood structures appear weakened, or you notice small piles of sawdust around windows and other openings, it could be a clue termites are at work inside the wall.

How do you get rid of termites?

Termite control is easier said than done as they can live as far as 300 feet away, using underground shelter tunnels to move to and from the nest site. This makes them difficult to locate and destroy. If the whole colony and nest are not destroyed termites can return. Can I do it myself?
